MS ABDB FINISH THEIR CAMPAIGN WITH 2-2 DRAW

The Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) concluded their DST Super League campaign with a 2-2 draw against two-time champions Indera Sports Council (SC) in their season-ending match at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas last night.

The first half saw both MS ABDB and Indera struggling to find their momentum. A flurry of fouls and clumsy challenges from top two teams suggested a rusty start, however, in the 26th minute MS ABDB’s Pvt Azizi Ali Rahman broke the deadlock after scoring from a cross from a corner.

The goal saw a more confident side of the army men, but Indera refused to falter and remained vigilant against the team who performed well throughout the season. Indera denied the army men and the score remained 1-0 towards the end of the first half.

The second half saw a more determined MS ABDB side when Pvt Razimie Ramli took the opportunity to score in the 46th minute but the linesman ruled the goal as offside.

Indera pushed to score and a change of tactics in offence from the dethroned champions managed to pull one back after Indera’s Muhd Nur Ikhwan Othman scored from a cross from a corner.

The 1-1 scenario however only lasted for a minute after MS ABDB regained their lead when Pvt Razimie scored from an assist from Pvt Mohammad Mazazizi Mazlan making it 2-1 for the army men.

Indera pushed hard for another goal despite conceding twice and in the 76th minute after a bad challenge from MS ABDB’s Pvt Azizi who went from hero to zero presented Indera a crucial penalty. Indera’s 19 year-old Ak Mohamad Haikal Pg Zaidi took the penalty with ease and made it 2-2.

Indera stood their ground and the scoreline remained 2-2 towards the end of the second half. MS ABDB’s interim manager, Major (A) Razanol Hardi Abd Razak highlighted their season-ender against Indera was tough and applauded them for giving his team a good final. “They were tough and we had expected that from them - after all they were champions in the last two seasons,” Major Razanol said in a post-match interview with The Brunei Times.

“This match was definitely one the most challenging matches we had this season and kudos to Indera for giving us such a brilliant final.

“We have been humbled in this match. Of course we wanted to win, but it wasn’t meant to be. We now look forward for the DST FA Cup and we look to defend that title,” Major Razanol concluded.

MS ABDB who are at the summit of the 10-team table with 49 points, followed by Indera with 42 points and Najip I-Team in third with 36 points.

The guest of honour who presented the trophies and medals to the top three teams of the DST Super League was Abdul Latif Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yusof, representing the DST Board of Directors.
