INDERA MANAGER WARNS AGAINST COMPLACENCY

Though Indera Sports Club (SC) manager Rosdin Hj Abdul Aziz was delighted with the club’s emphatic 8-1 win over Kilanas FC in the DST Super League on Tuesday, he has reminded the titleholders not to get carried away.

Sam Frank and Kane Ryan both bagged a brace in the victory at the Tutong Sports Complex, while Mohd Afi Aminuddin, Mohd Asri Aspar, Ak Mohd Azrul Ariffin and Mohd Nurikhwan Othman also managed to get on the scoresheet for Indera – who are third in the league.

The margin of victory was the largest since this year’s competition kicked off on April 1.

Speaking to The Brunei Times, Rosdin said that the resounding victory puts the defending champions in good stead ahead of Sunday’s clash against league leaders Najip I-Team.

He did, though, warn his players not to start thinking of the trophy just yet.

“I am very happy with the big win... I did not expect to win by such a large margin, but it was good for us as we want to find our rhythm as quickly as we can in the league,” said Rosdin yesterday.

“We are aiming for the third consecutive title this year but it is going to be tough because this year the other teams are getting stronger than before.

“If we can pass our close competitors like the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) and Najip, then maybe we can talk about winning the title.

“We also need to keep up with Najip I-Team, so every three points is a must - and to score that many against Kilanas FC was a big bonus for us.

“We will face the newly resurgent Najip and it is going to be our toughest match so far in the league and we need to be ready for that.

“The win against Kilanas FC helped to boost the confidence of the players, but we do not want to get carried away as there are still matches to play and we need to focus on one game at a time.

“We are going to lose a few players next week though because some of them will be involved in the UNICUP (Universities Cup) and other commitments,” added the manager.

Indera currently sit third in the 10-team league table with nine points and they have only played three games. Their first game was a 2-0 win against IKLS FC, and they followed that up with a victory over Tabuan Muda (national Under-23 team) by a similar scoreline.

Tabuan Muda, who have played seven games, sit second with 10 points, while league leaders Najip I-Team have a maximum of 12 points from four games.

This year’s DST Super League season saw Indera acquire a number of new players, notably Frank and Ryan – who Rosdin called “game changers”.

“Sam is a big lad and a versatile player,” he said.

“He can play anywhere across the field and that gives us a lot of choices with our game plan.

“Besides Sam, we also have Kane who is playing in the midfield.

“Both these players are game changers and we are very lucky to get their services this season,” added Rosdin.
