INDERA SC TOP GROUP C WITH WIN OVER IKLS
By Ahmed Shaheeb
Indera SC topped Group C with a hard fought 1-0 win over IKLS in round seven of the DST National Football League played at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.
In the first half, after a nervy start, there were no real chances as both teams battled for possession in the middle of the park. IKLS needing a win to guarantee a place in next season's first division packed their midfield to nullify Indera SC's attack.
Rosdin Abd Aziz, Indera SC team manager said, "My players were feeling the pressure to take first place in the group as MS ABDB had won their last match and we wanted to win our last match.
"However, IKLS have been steadily progressing and also needed a win to overtake Rimba Star in the league standings."
After the restart, the game came to life and a breakthrough did come in the 75th minute when Mohammad Azwan raced past the IKLS defenders and released a right-footed shot, which beat Awg Rahimin bin Hj Mohd Taha in goal.
Indera SC's Hamizan Aziz Sulaiman, looking to add to an already impressive goal tally, also ran the IKLS defence ragged with his mazy runs and in the 80th minute, resulting in a yellow card for Mohd Iswandi bin Abd Kadir and earning his team a free kick just outside the opposition penalty.
But the ensuing free kick sailed high and wide of the IKLS goal.
IKLS responded with a flurry of attacks with Ak Mohd Amiruddin Pg Jamaluddin coming the closest as the volley looked bound for the back of the net. But HBT player Abdul Mu' iz Sisa lunged to block the shot.
Indera SC's goalie Mohammad Norul Zulhilmi bin Mustapa was also in top form as he came up with a number of saves to prevent IKLS from acquiring the equaliser. After the match, Rosdin Abd Aziz said that he will look to bolster his current squad for the upcoming FA Cup.
"We will be preparing for the FA Cup with our regular training sessions and friendly matches. A few players are currently on trial with us right now for the upcoming competition."
