A SOLITARY goal by Md Azwan Ali Rahman in the 74th minute was all it took to secure Indera FC the top position for Group C of the DST National Football League.
The 1-0 win over IKLS at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas yesterday sees Indera FC end their season on a high, providing them with the momentum they need leading up to the Brunei FA Cup in June.
The match looked to be headed towards a goalless draw, with the first half concluding wihtout any clear cut chances for either teams.
A decision by Indera FC manager Rosdin Hj Abdul Aziz to bring in substitute Mohd Nazirul Nazreen Abdullah in the second half would pay dividends.
The winger would set a brilliant pass for Md Azwan who only needed a simple tap in to score the game-winning goal.
"It was a very tight game, we needed a win and since it was our last game, the pressure was on us," said Rosdin.
"It was very slow in the first half, but Alhamdulilah we managed to score in the second. I am very happy with the result.
"IKLS defended very well, they have improved a lot this year. They have some good players in the team and they gave a very good fight," he said.
Abdul Mu'iz Sisa could have put Indera FC in front when his header was superbly saved by goalkeeper Norsahrul Hj Ibrahim in the 17th minute.
This was not to say IKLS did not have their chances.
Awg Md Sapri went close to giving IKLS the lead after his shot struck the post in the 69th minute.
"We will continue our training as usual, and we will organise some friendly matches to prepare the squad for the upcoming Brunei FA Cup this June," said Rosdin.
The other match of the day saw Muara Vella FC defeated Besa FC 3-1 in the Group D at Berakas Sports Complex.
Abdul Azim Zainal scored the first goal in the 23rd minute and Sulaiman Ahad added two more in the 60th and 65th minute in the win.
