MAJRA DOWN INDERA 2-0, ENTER SEMIS

BY WARDI BUNTAR MAJRA FC outshone Indera Sports Club 2-0 at the Balapan Track & Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas last night. A night of speedy runs and constant high passes, both teams pressured each other throughout the match to earn a place in the semifinals. In the first half, it seemed that they were equally good in their defence and offence. It was only during the second half that the deadlock was broken when an Indera defender fouled Majra's striker in the penalty box. A penalty goal for Adi Said in the 68th minute, his team was not satisfied with just one goal. With a panicking Indera SC, the players were blasting the ball from left to right, trying to find the back of the net but Majra's defensive wall did not break down as their backline ensured that they maintained the scoreline. Picture: BT/ Raul Padernal INDERA Sports Club's fans were in a celebratory mood after edging AM Gunners FC 8-7 to qualify for the quarter-finals of the DST Group Brunei League Cup 2011 last night. Though they twice enjoyed the lead at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas, Indera let their guard down and allowed the Gunners to tie the game at 2-2 to force penalties. In the end Indera's captain Ak Shahruddin Pg Hj Tejuddin was the man of the moment, scoring his penalty before AM Gunners' Md Nazri Hj Hassan saw his saved by Md Norul Zulhilmi Mustapa. MUARA VELLA CLIMB TO TOP CUP WIN FOR 5-STAR MENGLAIT

BY JASON THOMAS MUARA VELLA FC moved to the top of the DST Group National Veteran Football President Cup 2011 Group B with a 2-0 away win against hosts Brunei Shell Recreation Club (BSRC) yesterday. The only team with maximum points from both games, Rosli Ahad gave the visitors the lead on the half-hour mark at the BSRC in Seria.  It was all quiet until the second half, when Md Salleh Md Zain doubled the advantage with a penalty in the 59th minute. BSRC drop to fourth from second with the loss. Veteran 20, meanwhile, moved to second after a 2-2 draw with Perkasa FC at the Awang Semaun Secondary School. Perkasa's Hj Mahadi Hj Dullah made it 1-0 in the 19th minute before Veteran 20's Hj Sharifulrizal Hj Zainal evened things up in the 58th minute. Mohd Hj Umar regained Perkasa the lead four minutes later, but Ishak Hj Kabon would make it 2-2 in the 68th minute. DRAW LIFTS INDERA TO 4TH

INDERA SC and Jerudong FC settled for a share of the points in their DST Group Brunei Premier League (BPL) I game which ended 1-1 last night. Both goals at the Berakas Sports Complex were scored inside the first 10 minutes, and though the teams would continue to create chances, neither were able to capitalise. Muhd Afi Aminuddin, one of the six DPMM FC players in Indera, opened the scoring in the first minute before Jerudong's Md Sufian Hj Lamudin equalised six minutes later. The result pushes Indera from fifth to fourth by displacing AM Gunners FC. AM Gunners, who started the weekend on third, have now dropped two spots as a result of last night's game and the 1-1 draw between Majra FC and the Prisons Department on Saturday night. Jerudong, on the other hand, remain seventh in the nine-team league. Though he was pleased with the result, Indera coach Moksin Mohamed felt his team could have done better...
