MUARA VELLA CLIMB TO TOP CUP WIN FOR 5-STAR MENGLAIT

BY JASON THOMAS

MUARA VELLA FC moved to the top of the DST Group National Veteran Football President Cup 2011 Group B with a 2-0 away win against hosts Brunei Shell Recreation Club (BSRC) yesterday.

The only team with maximum points from both games, Rosli Ahad gave the visitors the lead on the half-hour mark at the BSRC in Seria.

It was all quiet until the second half, when Md Salleh Md Zain doubled the advantage with a penalty in the 59th minute.

BSRC drop to fourth from second with the loss.

Veteran 20, meanwhile, moved to second after a 2-2 draw with Perkasa FC at the Awang Semaun Secondary School.

Perkasa's Hj Mahadi Hj Dullah made it 1-0 in the 19th minute before Veteran 20's Hj Sharifulrizal Hj Zainal evened things up in the 58th minute.

Mohd Hj Umar regained Perkasa the lead four minutes later, but Ishak Hj Kabon would make it 2-2 in the 68th minute.

A 2-1 win for Indera SC over Jerudong at the Pehin Dato Seri Maharaja Secondary School was enough for the club to drag themselves off the foot of the eight-team table to fifth.

Jerudong's Hj Jalaluddin Hj Ghazali opened the scoring after 10 minutes but goals from Mohd Yusra in the 20th minute and Mohd Yussri Ramli three minutes after the restart would give Indera the three points.

The game between former leader Semaun Vet and Imfera United had to be postponed due to the poor condition of the pitch at the Sg Kebun Sports Complex.

Tomorrow's Group A tie between defending champions Persatuan Sang Jati Dusun (PSJD) and table-toppers TelBru Football Team promises to be the best match of the day.

Having blasted PSI FC 7-0 last Friday, TelBru head into the game at BSRC full of confidence.

PSJD, meanwhile, will be looking to get into the win column after starting their campaign with a 0-0 draw to Temburong last Sunday.

Second in the table, Kota Ranger take on Temburong at the Sg Kebun Sports Complex tomorrow with both teams no doubt hoping that the pitch's condition will hold out for 90 minutes.
