MAJRA DOWN INDERA 2-0, ENTER SEMIS

BY WARDI BUNTAR

MAJRA FC outshone Indera Sports Club 2-0 at the Balapan Track & Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas last night.

A night of speedy runs and constant high passes, both teams pressured each other throughout the match to earn a place in the semifinals. In the first half, it seemed that they were equally good in their defence and offence.

It was only during the second half that the deadlock was broken when an Indera defender fouled Majra's striker in the penalty box. A penalty goal for Adi Said in the 68th minute, his team was not satisfied with just one goal.

With a panicking Indera SC, the players were blasting the ball from left to right, trying to find the back of the net but Majra's defensive wall did not break down as their backline ensured that they maintained the scoreline.

Low morale seemed to have disrupt Indera's playing as their opponents scored another goal in the 79th minute when a through-ball to Mohd Faizal Mohd saw the striker blast it past Indera's surprised keeper.

Pleased with the team, Majra's Manager Mohd Nazib Hj Ali stated that he was proud that the team performed better than he expected.

"The players listened well to their coach, they played the way that they were supposed to play and it's a big step up to our team for winning the match," said Mohd Nazib.

The manager also said that the Indera Sports Club were tough opponents and felt that it was a valuable experience for the players to learn from especially in shaping and building up formations and plays.

On the other side of Berakas, DST Group Football Team downed Jerudong FC 5-1 at the Berakas Sports Complex.

The game saw a hat-trick from Mohd Azril Md Ali in the 14th, 28th and 78th minute, and a goal each from Muhd Fakri Ismail in the 38th minute and Sadilah Ismail in the 84th minute.

For Jerudong FC, their sole goal was scored in the 77th minute by Faizul Jefry Hj Zaini.

Despite DST's win, Ak Mahmod Fakhrul Razi Pg Hamzah received two yellow cards, which will leave him out on the bench for the next match.

The winners will meet in the second semi-final for Wednesday's match, with the highly-anticipated final on Sunday.
