PERFECT 10 QAF FC WARY OF INDERA'S TRIO

BY JASON THOMAS

FRESH off their demolition of Brunei Shell Football Team (BSFT) in their first DSTGroup Brunei Premier League I (BPL I) match of the year last week, reigning champions QAF FC are on a high.

But despite the 10-0 result at the Berakas Sports Complex issuing a strong statement to the rest of the sides in the 10-team table, the league leaders are not taking anything for granted in their match against Indera FC tomorrow.

Indera might be seventh in the table with 15 points from five wins but QAF FC's coach doesn't think their position reflects their true potential especially with the recent inclusion of three former DPMM FC midfielders.

"Indera are a strong team and they are becoming better," said Ali Hj Mustafa yesterday.

"We are worried because they have three new players, Sairol Hj Sahari, Azwan Salleh and Md Helmi Zambin.

"Right now they also have a better coach in Pg Md Serfuddin Pg Hj Md Salleh (ex-DPMM FC assistant coach) and they are training better," Ali said.

Add in Md Khayrun Salleh, the forward who used to strike fear into the hearts of defenders when he was playing for the Royal Brunei Armed Forces' Sports Council (MS ABDB) last season, and Indera have a line-up that most coaches would be wary of.

However, they will be without the services of two important players.

Key defender Mohd Sharin Zaini is yet to recover from an injury he picked up during Indera's 1-0 win over Wijaya on Dec 16.

They will also be without their versatile captain Ak Shahruddin Pg Tejuddin who is suspended.

Ali said that QAF FC have none of those worries, and he insisted that his team remember they are only as good as their last result.

"During the game against BSFT we were lucky since they did not have their full line-up," said Ali.

"But it is a new game against Indera. We have to beat them.

"We will not be intimidated by the three players and will try to attack the whole match," he insisted.

Pg Md Serfuddin was not available for comment.

Indera's last result was a 2-1 loss at the hands of MS ABDB at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas last Wednesday, the same night QAF FC thrashed BSFT.

Tomorrow's other match pits Wijaya against Jerudong at the Balapan Track and Field.

Wednesday's action will see MS ABDB face relegation strugglers NBT FC at the Penanjong Camp in Tutong.

MS ABDB are third in the league while NBT are fighting with basement dwellers BSFT to stay in the top flight next season.

The ninth-placed team at the end of the league will compete in a play-off against the second-placed team from BPL II, with the winners earning a BPL I ticket.

Also on Wednesday night, AH United go head to head against Majra FC at the Balapan Track and Field.

Only two points separate the sides, Majra on fifth with 18 points and AH United on sixth with 16.

All games will kick off at 8.15pm.
