INDERA MS ABDB FACE OFF

Two-time DST Super League champions Indera Sports Council (SC) fell short of defending their title against rivals Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB), but they just might make up for it in tonight’s DST FA Cup final.

Indera head coach Hj Omar Hj Jamil feels that the match is the biggest highlight of the season for his team but remains wary of MS ABDB’s strong form.

Indera went through to the final after beating IKLS FC 4-1 at the Tutong Sports Complex on Tuesday while MS ABDB secured their place after beating Tabuan Muda (national Under-23 football team) 2-1 on Wednesday.

“This final is ‘the match’. We have one last shot of winning a trophy this season and we cannot lose our focus against MS ABDB,” said Hj Omar in an interview with The Brunei Times on Thursday.

“Not to sound over-confident, but I think it is time for MS ABDB to hand over the torch to us… Just how we did for them in the league.

“MS ABDB are a very fine team and they truly deserve the league this season, but we will be sure to put up a great final again against them.

“We held them to a 2-2 draw last weekend (during the last game of the DST Super League) and we showed how determined we were that night.

“They will be on fire this weekend. There will be no draws this time - either you win or you lose,” he added.

MS ABDB have won the DST FA Cup the past two seasons and the army men are looking forward to securing title number three tonight.

MS ABDB secured their first DST Super League title in October before concluding their season finale last week against Indera with a 2-2 draw.

MS ABDB’s interim manager Major (A) Razanol Hardi Abd Razak praised Indera’s determination in their season-ender and is looking forward to another good final against the dethroned champions.

“They have strong spirit, don’t get me wrong. Their spirit can be compared to us soldiers,” Major Razanol said.

“Just like them, we want to defend our title and we want to have a DST FA Cup hat-trick.

“The match will not be easy especially after the fight they gave us last week and their semi-final win against IKLS FC.

“This will be one of the most anticipated matches of the season, and there can only be one winner this time,” Major Razanol concluded.

The game will kick off at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas at 9pm.
