HAJI OMAR: WE DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO CAUSE AN UPSET
Indera Sports Council (SC) fell short in
their DST FA Cup campaign after losing 2-3 to the Royal Brunei Armed Forces
Sports Council (MS ABDB) in the final at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium
on Saturday night.
Indera head coach Hj Omar Hj Jamil felt that his team did the best but luck was not on their side.
“Losing the match against MS ABDB in the final was devastating, but MS ABDB were the better team here,” said Hj Omar in an interview with The Brunei Times yesterday.
“We were trailing by three goals. When we pulled two back in the second half, our hopes were lifted, but we didn’t have enough time to cause an upset,” Hj Omar lamented. The match was interrupted in the fifth minute due to heavy rain before resuming 35 minutes later.
“The waterlogged pitch didn’t help at all, but we can’t use that as an excuse. It disrupted our momentum of course, but MS ABDB had it tough as well,” said Hj Omar. “We couldn’t do much but pushed hard for the last goal and hoped it would’ve gone to extra time, but I guess luck was not on our side," he added.
Indera SC fared well since 2013 when they won the DST Super League title for the first time under the National Football Association Brunei Darussalam (NFABD).
They lost to MS ABDB in that season’s DST FA Cup but went on winning last year’s league.
“We did the best we could and I was proud of my team for giving their 100 per cent this whole season. I think I’ve done enough,” he said.
“We don’t know what will happen next year, but being runners-up against a fine team like MS ABDB was an honour.
“Of course we will be looking forward at what will hold for us next season. We shall see,” Hj Omar concluded.
