INDERA SET SIGHTS ON SECOND PLACE

INDERA SC can go a step closer towards cementing second place if they secure victory over Wijaya FC in the DST Super League at the Tutong Sports Complex tonight.

Three points against Wijaya FC will mean Najip I-Team effectively in need of maximum points in their remaining two games while relying on favours from the former winners’ next opponents.

Indera SC were held to a goalless draw the last time these both sides met but a point will allow Najip to go level on points if they beat Jerudong FC on Saturday.

However a victory and Indera SC may only need a point to virtually be guaranteed of second spot with third-placed Najip holding an inferior goal difference if a scenario emerge that come at the end of the season where both are locked with the same points.

Indera, who could gain breathing space with victory, can go five points clear of Najip with two games remaining and a commanding goal difference could be key in the battle for second spot.

Making developments in the league interesting will be if Wijaya FC pull off a victory who could yet steal a march for third spot.

Najip could confirm a top three finish for a second successive year if they could exact redemption over Jerudong who beat them 2-1 last May.

Wijaya FC could enhance their prospects of confirming a top four spot, which would be a marked improvement from their woeful seventh place finish in the preceding season, if they seal all three points against a side who recently surrendered the DST Super League crown.

Indera SC, who safely progressed to the quarterfinals of the DST FA Cup on Tuesday, will be out to avenge their defeat against the newly crowned champions MS ABDB in the season finale.

And a morale-boosting victory over Wijaya FC could send them a signal of intent of condemning their fiercest rivals to only their second loss in the league this season.

Tabuan Muda could still harbour hopes of fourth spot but if Wijaya FC prevail, they would require a perfect end to the season to stand any chance of overhauling their direct competitor.

Tabuan will be hoping to finish strongly against teams positioned in mid-table and could help IKLS sink to the depths of second bottom with victory.
