3 INDERA PLAYERS GET RED CARDS, MATCH CALLED OFF
The DST Super League match between Tabuan
Muda (the national under-23 team) and Indera Sports Club (SC) was abandoned
after the latter were reduced to only eight players on the field.
The match commissioner yesterday said that the match cannot continue if one side has only eight players in the team and that Tabuan Muda automatically will be awarded three points.
Both teams could not find the breakthrough at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex.
Indera were reduced to eight players when captain Shahrin Hj Momin was sent off for a second yellow card in the 61st minute forcing the referee to call off the match immediately.
Earlier in the first-half, Indera’s defender Mohammad Afi Aminuddin was sent for an early shower in the 23rd minute after second bookable offence.
Meanwhile, left-back Muiz Sisa was shown a straight red card just four minutes later following a dangerous tackle on Tabuan Muda player.
Indera’s head coach Hj Omar Hj Jamil expressed his disappointment with the quality of refereeing in the match.
“I think the referee did not control the game well and it led to most players feeling upset and frustrated,” said Hj Omar in an interview with The Brunei Times after the match.
“I have no complaint with the second red card but the first and the third red card were very harsh.
“I really think that Afi just went for a normal challenge… it is what all defenders do and I don’t think that it was a bad challenge, and it was also the same with Shahrin.
“We do not have anything against the referee but today’s refereeing was just very poor. He did not manage to control the players,”
“There were a lot of inconsistencies in decisions as well, such as allowing Tabuan Muda substitutes on the bench to use green colours when we were using the same colour on the pitch during the game,” continued the head coach.
“Today’s game was very important for us as we are still fighting for the second place against Najip I-Team. I really hope that we can bounce back from this result,” he added.
Indera remained second in the table with 32 points ahead of Najip I-Team who are now on 30 points.
Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) have already secured the DST Super League title on Friday with two games left to play.
