INDERA SC are into the semi-finals of the DST FA Cup after beating Wijaya FC 4-0 in the quarter-finals last night.

A goal apiece from Abd Mu’is Sisa, Hamizan Aziz Sulaiman, Mohd Asri Hj Aspar and Md Khairul Anwar Abd Rahim powered Indera into the last four along with Najip FC, QAF FC and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB).

Elsewhere, Najip FC defeated Liang Lumut Recreational Club (LLRC) FT 2-1 at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas last night to book their place in the semi-finals and will meet Indera on Wednesday at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah Sports Complex in Berakas.

QAF FC will go up against MS ABDB tomorrow at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah Sports Complex in the other semi-final.

Both Indera and Wijaya struggled to play in the flooded Berakas Sports Complex pitch due to the heavy rainfall, and neither of the two goalkeepers was seriously threatened in the first half.

The second half saw both teams perform better but neither could break the deadlock until Mu’is made the breakthrough in the 68th minute.

Indera took the lead after Wijaya’s defenders were unable to clear the ball away properly, and the bouncing ball found Mu’is outside the penalty area – who took the opportunity to fire home a low strike to the back of the net.

Hamizan doubled Indera’s lead a minute later after he found himself in space just outside the penalty area and skipped past Wijaya’s defenders to dink the ball over the goalkeeper.

Indera’s Asri added to Wijaya’s misery in the 77th minute, slotting the ball low into the right corner of the net from a penalty kick.

Khairul netted Indera’s fourth goal after taking advantage of Wijaya’s messy defending inside their penalty box to conclude the scoring.

Indera’s coach Hj Omar Hj Jamil said his team started to find their rhythm in the second half after they made a few adjustments in their tactics. “Our style of play mainly involves short passing and we could not execute it in the first half because of the bad pitch conditions,” he said.

“In the second half we changed the tactics where our back four would provide long passes to the forward players. The attackers then held the ball and fed it to the midfielders and wingers in order to create attacking plays.”

Hj Omar was pleased with the win as they took a step closer to the final, saying that they will do their best in the semi-final.

Wijaya’s manager Ahyana Hj Tali seconded Hj Omar’s view of the pitch’s condition.

“It was very hard for our players to play both in attack and defence,” he said.

“The defeat may also be due to the team’s lack of commitment in training, and the opponents also have the upper-hand in terms of stamina,” he added.

Indera made through to the quarter-finals after defeating Menglait 4-2 last Tuesday while Wijaya booked their spot after beating Perkasa 4-1 on Dec 9.

QAF FC edged the Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council (MS PDB) 2-1 on Saturday while MS ABDB cruised past Kilanas FC 4-0 on Wednesday to clinch their place in the semis.
