THE DST Super League’s leading goal scorers,
Indera Sports Club’s Mohd Zulkhairy Razali and Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports
Council’s (MS ABDB) SLD Mohd Muhaimin Rosmalee, will go head-to-head at 8.15pm
at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex
in Berakas tonight.
A previous meeting between the two teams saw
last season’s DST FA Cup winners MS ABDB triumph 2-1 against the defending
champions and current table toppers at the league’s curtain raiser, the
Sumbangsih Cup in January.
Both teams are familiar with each other and it
is of no surprise that the league’s leading scorers expressed tremendous
respect for their respective opponents.
Mohd Zulkhairy who boasts six goals under his
name believes that MS ABDB are still Indera SC’s toughest opponents despite
having fallen four points behind the leaders.
“Yes, there are other teams above MS ABDB but
MS ABDB are the strongest and most confident team in the league for me,” said
Mohd Zulkhairy.
“But Indera SC and I are prepared and we will
give our best when we come face-to-face this weekend.”
Mohd Muhaimin, who has scored five goals so
far, said that Indera SC are a formidable team but cautioned that the other
teams should not be taken lightly either.
“There is no denying that Indera SC are the
strongest as defending champions but every team have their weaknesses,” he
said.
“Outside of us, there is a chance Najip FC,
Lumut Liang Recreational Club (LLRC) and Royal Brunei Police Forces Sports
Council (MS PDB) can become champions this season,” he added.
The fact that the league’s top two scorers are
both under the age of 21 should be an encouraging sign for football in the
Sultanate.
Mohd Zulkhairy said he always loved football
but it was his family’s support that encouraged him to become a football
player.
The 17-year-old, who only joined Indera SC this
year, said he is not thinking about becoming this season’s golden boot winner
but is instead fully focused on the team.
“My target for this season is simply glory and
success but not of my own,” he said.
“I have not given much thought about becoming
the top scorer or best player, what I do desire is for Indera FC to become
champions again.”
Mohd Muhaimin – aged 20 – is also putting his
team’s interests ahead of his own.
Also in his first year with the club, the
footballer of 11 years said his target was to work together with his teammates
and achieve victory each game at a time.
“I’m working really hard this season to do MS
ABDB proud but I believe every team should also work hard to raise the quality
and standard of football in the Sultanate,” he said.
