DEFENDING champions Indera SC remain the only unbeaten team in the DST Super League after defeating leaders Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council (MS PDB) 2-0 last night.

MS PDB were enjoying the bulk of possession and moving forward in the early going at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.

Indera were also careless in giving away free kicks in dangerous positions but were fortunate not to pay the price.

They broke the deadlock in the 13th minute with Abdul Mu’is Sisa firing a low shot past MS PDB keeper APO6533 Pg Mohd Muizzudin Pg Ismail.

The policemen keeper watched the ball agonisingly roll past the line despite getting a hand to it.

The momentum switched in favour of Indera after that as the policemen were giving the ball away cheaply at midfield.

Mohd Zulkhairy Razali of Indera had a chance in the 24th minute but saw his efforts saved by APO6533 Pg Mohd Muizzudin.

The MS PDB keeper was once again called into action in the 41st minute to provide another save from a good strike by Ak Omar Nur Aqammaddin Pg Hj Sallehuddin to ensure they only faced a one goal deficit at halftime.

Indera went on the attack immediately after the restart and APO6533 Pg Mohd Muizzudin had to dive to prevent Abdul Mu’is from getting his second goal two minutes in.

Indera captain Shahrin Momin won a penalty a minute later after he was brought down in the box.

Mohd Zulkhairy doubled the defending champions’ lead after bulging the net from the ensuing spot kick.

MS PDB almost got one back in the 52nd minute through PC5880 Zulhamzi Hj Awang but Indera keeper Mohd Fakrul Zulhamzi Yussof was on hand to deny him.

APO6533 Pg Mohd Muizzudin ensured that his side would not concede more goals, coming up with several more saves.

MS PDB were looking more deadly on the attack and looked a different side for the final 20 minutes.

They continuously pushed forward and should have scored in the 70th minute but PC5880 Zulhamzi was once again denied by Mohd Fakrul Zulhamzi.

Despite getting the bulk of possession, they never really troubled the Indera goal much, resulting in their second defeat of the season.

Indera head coach Hj Omar Hj Jamil was delighted that everything went according to plan.

“The strategy was to go on the attack early and get that goal. Even if we only had one, it would be good enough as long as we won the match,” said Hj Omar in an interview with The Brunei Times after the triumph.

“We played more defensive minded in the second half and only went on the counter attack. We also moved Zulkhairy from striker to the left to cause problems for them,” he added.

“But overall I’m very happy with the team’s performance,” concluded Hj Omar.

The win propels Indera to second place in the 10-team table with 13 points from five matches while MS PDB remain top on 15 points from seven games.

Najip FC are tied with Indera on points after fighting back from two goals down to draw 2-2 against Jerudong FC last night.
