CAN ANYONE SLOW DOWN INDERA?

As if their 16-1 thrashing of Perda FC on April 21 wasn't enough to send shockwaves rippling over the DST National Football League, they demolished Sangsura FC 15-0 on Tuesday night the tsunami of goals sending them to the top of Group C.

Their fourth win in five games, Indera have now netted 45 times and let in only four the other three goals coming in their lone loss of the season, a 3-1 defeat to the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council on March 25.

With only two more games left to play, Indera who enjoy the best goal difference in the 32-team competition have virtually guaranteed their spot in the Brunei Super League (BSL) as one of the two best sides in each of the eight-team groups.

Though they have been firing on all cylinders, striker Hamizan Aziz Sulaiman who netted seven times against Sangsura and three times against Perda was quick to shy away from any individual praise.

"I think we've been scoring so many goals because of our good training we train three times a week," he said yesterday.

"As for my goals ... I was just lucky plus I get a lot of support from my teammates.

"Our coaching staff and management have also helped a lot ... Of course I'm surprised we've been doing so well," he added.

Long acknowledged as one of the deadliest players in front of the goal, the 23-year-old featured for Brunei at last year's Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Jakarta though he failed to find the back of the net in the Indonesian capital.

The younger generation of national players, names like Md Azwan Ali Rahman, Md Nurikhwan Othman, Abdul Mu'iz Sisa and Abd Al-Wardi Abd Hamid who were in the HBT team which won the Under-21 tournament in March, have all played a part in Indera's success this season a point which Hamizan was quick to point out.

"The HBT players have really helped us," he noted.

"That's not to take anything away from the older players who have been here all along and guided us along the way," he added.

With Sri Sentosa and IKLS left to play, Indera's fans can be forgiven for thinking they have one foot in the Brunei Super League.

Hamizan, though, doesn't want to celebrate just yet.

"I can't say for sure if we'll be in the Super League," he said.

"All I know is that we have two more games left and they'll be tough fights."

The DST National Football League will take a break today before pitting IKLS against Perda and Jerudong FC against Tunas FC in Group B action tomorrow.

Both will be played at the Berakas Sports Complex - the former at 8:15pm and the latter at 4pm.
