ZULPADLI'S GOAL SENDS INDERA TO THIRD POSITION
BY JASON THOMAS
AK MD ZULFADLI PG HJ TAJUDDIN'S goal just moments into the second half was all it took for Indera FC to leapfrog AH United in the DSTGroup Brunei Premier League I last night, with the 1-0 result enough to secure all three points at the Berakas Sports Complex.
Moving up two spots to third in the 12-team table, the win was Indera's sixth of the season and they currently have 19 points from 10 games.
Their victory also means that Majra FC slip to fourth with 18 points, while AH United is forced to slide two places down to fifth.
After an evenly contested first 45 minutes, which saw both sides create numerous scoring chances but fail to capitalise on any, it was only natural that one of the team's defences would eventually crack and let in a goal.
That moment came sooner rather than later, though none of the Indera fans were complaining with the goal their team scored just a minute into the second half.
Muis Sisa's header off a corner kick was only punched out as far as Ak Md Zulfadli, who hardly could miss hitting the back of the net from a few yards out.
The goal obviously gave Indera a surge of confidence as evident in their creating waves after waves of attack especially down the right flank.
Going on to control the midfield, their back line shored by the tall and physical centre-back, Abd Hakim Md Musliano did well to keep AH United out by coming up with crucial tackles and interceptions.
Even Mohd Brian Iman Abd Bothwell's substitution inclusion after the hour mark failed to see AH United find the back of the net though of the three shots on goal the striker had, two were saved and one went wide.
Indeed, AH United missed many guilt edged chances throughout the match, and they cannot expect to repeat last night's performance in front of goal if they want to have any hope of claiming the title this season.
Indera did have their fair share of scoring opportunities as well it was fair to say that the second half was an end-to-end action but a combination of poor finishing and tired legs contributed to Indera's failure to add to their lead.
The other match of the night played at the Belapan Track & Field saw Kasuka FC grab their first win of the season, beating NBT FC 2-1 with second half goals from Ak Md Kharol Nizam Pg Hj Ismail and Md Shahjohan Hj Sahari.
Md Azuan Hj Metassim scored NBT's only goal in the 14th minute.
The win gives Kasuka five points from 11 matches, and though they are tied with NBT in the points tally, their poorer goal difference mean they are still doomed to the bottom of the league.
